To me, meaning is what develops via defining our own experience and worldview on our own terms without depending on outside sources of truth.

The process of defining meaning through careful inner analysis and contemplation is all about bringing the inner experience into outer form: truthfully, effeciently and also with detachment and a willingness to let go of beliefs and assumptions.

Meaning keeps us moving forward, evolving and developing our greatest potential.

Development must include the objective component of defining meaning, or it will stagnate. We cannot feel our way to Self Realization, although emotional awareness is equally essential in the process. But that's for another question. :-)

Thanks for sharing your view.
Meaning as defining inner understanding, which has developed through conscious analysis of inner experience. Thanks!
Thanks for the response, imo:

Enfeelingment (Subject Being) without Engnowingment (Objectively competent in defining meaning and also in defining Subjective Being into language that can be shared with others) is impotent to bring transformation into the collective mind. We cannot develop our true potential as humans without the ability to define it. Being is still Being, even when it is actualized in Doing. Conscious doing is Being Doing….and that kind of doing develops everyone, not just our own personal self.

I am not interested in death and don't care what happens 'after' something that does not truly exist. There is only Life and bringing Life to the world is my only interest. :-) Thank you for the quotes cheeky :-) I really vibe with the first one. WOW!!!

Think you pretty well summed it up.

Meaning as in understanding, or meaning as in sentimentality, or meaning as in self-worth?

I can't stand these god damn courses. My employer regularly sends employees on personal deveopment courses (soft skills, communication, interpersonal etc.) I'm on a graduate programme so there is no way I can get out of attending them. But I just can't get involved in a bunch of people in suits doing dumb activities and "teambuilding" etc. I'm perfectly capable of communicating effectively on the job. But I'm also an introvert and consequently find it difficult to get involved in these courses as they are not 'real-life'.

Plus alot of people I work with are a bunch of toffs who live off daddy's money.

What's the best way not to get noticed in these activities. My main goal is to avoid being the 'group spokesperson'.

lol! Sit in the back of the room. Nod once in a while when the speakers make eye contact. Take a large binder, and act like you are taking notes. Bring a magazine you haven't read, and insert the magazine in the binder. Cover magazine with the useless literature they handout when they start moving in your direction.

Take "potty" breaks often, let the speaker know ahead of time in private you have a urinary track infection, and you want to be in the back of the room so you won't disturb everyone when you go to the restroom.

If the meeting is at a hotel, visit the bar during your "potty" breaks. Time your "potty" breaks so you can avoid role playing, and other crap you hate.

I need a good forum for discussing personal development / self help and ways of making money…can someone recommend such a forum?

I like this one myself:

Produce a personal development plan covering your first three months as a first line manager. The plan and any accompanying narrative should show:
(a) When and how you will indentify your own training needs.
(b) What you will do to meet those needs.
(c) Target dates for completion.
(d) When and how you will agree the plan with your manager.

How will this benefit you ? If you are a first line manager are you having problems compiling your own?

It's a bit cheeky. I'm afraid I have to say my own is confidential - between my linemanager and myself (and my team - where relevant).

I'm interested in sites that either contain information about personal development or suggest some tasks or even online personal development trainings. Free or paid, doesn't matter. Please recommend something to me!

I am supposed to write a paer in my organisation on Personal Development plan on total qaulity management but I do not have material to present. The two subject PDP and TQM are the topics.

Find takeholders (HR manager etc) and get their input.

If you have TQM you will have some material on this so use that, who helped your organisation through TQM - speak with them.

Every year we like to give our boys (who are 12 and 15)something for Christmas that's educational and promoting personal development along with the toys and other stuff so they can learn and grow. Does anyone have some good ideas?

I don't intend for the fallowing to sound like the focus is on money. Jim Rohn is a powerful author and has many ideas that pertain to life outside of money. Money should come after success and personal development anyway.

Jim Rohn covers the three places to begin for any teenager (or adult) in their quest for a future full of success, happiness and wealth.

1. Price and promise - the power of vision and setting goals.

2. Personal development - expanding your knowledge through books, tapes, seminars and other successful people.

3. The principles of wealth - earning, saving, giving and investing.

Over the years, Jim Rohn has heard from thousands of people - many who saw or heard Jim early in their life who later went on to achieve success. Don't let yourself or your family miss out on this powerful 56 minute video that can inspire, teach and lead you to success.

Who is the BEST personal Development Coach?

Posted by admin on Oct-6-2008

If you were in the marketing for a personal development coach, who would you use?

Personal Development Coaches are about as reliable as fortune tellers. Big BS job. Don't use any.

I define personal development in this case when the work you do is something that helps you grow as a professional and individual.
Working for money is normally when someone works something that is not necessary what you like but helps you to get your economic goals.

I guess I’ve been lucky , I started by going for the personal development thing, college apprenticeship etc etc.
Then started work in my chosen field, still with my eye on personal development mainly via experience related to my job.
I found myself going up the ladder, then one day I saw the light, I had a nice office , I was now a manager, good salary, pension deal etc all the perks.
I was looking at the array of pencils I had just sharpened, great days work!!!
I then thought this isn’t what I want to be doing.I was getting good money in the UK for what?
I had been reading a UK National newspaper, Engineering jobs available , I went back to it.
I got an interview, I got the job with an American company working in Saudi , 3 times the salary I was on at the time, no tax, free accomadation, free food, free trips home on leave to the UK!
So I had money and doing the job I wanted, I never looked back.
Now retired and I dont regret giving up this personal development thing, In fact I dont regret any part of my working life.
I wish I had a formula to share with other folk, but I dont . Just go with whatever makes you happy , by all means suffer a bit at first get your qualifications and experience , choose your field of work with a great deal of thought , and good luck to you all.
